Director Lewie Homan is seeking performers (18+) for First Presbyterian Church of Bridgeton’s upcoming production of Godspell (1972 version — not the revival).

We are casting 10 performers, and this show functions as a true ensemble — every role is featured. We are seeking energetic, committed actors from all backgrounds to help bring this joyful, community-centered musical to life.

We are committed to inclusive casting and encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, and body types to audition.

All performers must be 18 years old by July 1st.

This is a volunteer, unpaid production.

Doors will open 30 minutes prior to auditions.

Audition Information
June 13 & 14 | 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
(Doors open at 1:30 PM)
Callbacks (if needed): June 16 at 6:00 PM
Auditions are first come, first served — no sign-up required.

What to Prepare:
One song from Godspell (1972 version only)
A 30–60 second improvised scene (provided at auditions)
An accompanist will be provided and will have the sheet music ready.
Please do not bring tracks or plan to sing a cappella.
You do not need to be a trained dancer — just someone ready to move in a fun, expressive way.

Headshot and resume (if available, but not required)
A complete list of conflicts between July 1 and September 13
Due to the ensemble nature of this show, rehearsal attendance is extremely important.

Rehearsal & Performance Information
Rehearsals will be held three times per week:
One weekend afternoon
Two weekday evenings
The rehearsal schedule will be finalized after casting and reviewing conflicts.
Tech Week begins Saturday, September 5.
All cast members must be available for the entire tech week. (Labor Day falls during tech week; as a cast, we will decide together which day to take off.)

Character Breakdown
Jesus (Tenor)
Charismatic, high-energy, yet gentle and loving. Leader of the group.
Sings: “Save the People,” “All for the Best,” “Alas for You,” “Beautiful City”
John the Baptist / Judas (Tenor)
Jesus’ right-hand man who ultimately becomes the doubter and rebel.
Sings: “Prepare Ye,” “All for the Best”
Jeffrey (Tenor)
High-energy, silly, playful, childlike.
Sings: “We Beseech Thee”
Lamar (Tenor)
Sweet, innocent; often the last to understand the joke.
Sings: “All Good Gifts,” “Learn Your Lessons Well (Reprise)”
Herb (Baritone)
Class clown with strong comedic timing; great with voices and impressions.
Sings: “Light of the World”
Robin (Mezzo-Soprano)
Sweet, innocent, natural leader; first to commit to Jesus.
Sings: “Day by Day”
Joanne (Soprano)
Confident and bold; eager to jump in.
Sings: “Bless the Lord”
Peggy (Vocal Range Open)
Shy, warm, nurturing presence.
Sings: “By My Side”
Sonia (Alto)
Sassy, slightly cynical, flirtatious energy.
Sings: “Turn Back, O Man”
Gilmer (Vocal Range Flexible)
Goofy, silly, comedic — the female counterpart to Herb.
Sings: “Learn Your Lessons Well”

For the roles of Herb and Lamar, we are seeking actors who can play piano for one song each. However, if you do not play piano, please do not let this discourage you from auditioning.

Godspell is a celebration of community, storytelling, and building something meaningful together. We can’t wait to create this with you.
