An accompanist will be provided. Sheet music is strongly preferred, but a Bluetooth speaker will be available for tracks. You may pair with our speaker or bring your own, but proper amplification is required. Singing a capella or playing a track from a cell phone without amplification will not be accepted.
If you are unable to attend auditions on the scheduled dates, please contact Director Ray Crozier at raycrozier96@gmail.com so alternative arrangements can be discussed.
ROLES TO BE CAST
The following descriptions are intended to provide a general overview of each role. All roles are open unless otherwise noted. Wilmington Drama League encourages performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, body types, and backgrounds to audition.
PRINCIPAL ROLES
SHREK
Male | Stage Age: 25–45
Vocal Range: A2 – G♯4 (Baritone)
A big, green, intimidating ogre who has spent his life believing the world wants nothing to do with him. Content with the solitude of his swamp, Shrek’s quiet life is disrupted when a host of fairy tale creatures invade his home. His reluctant quest to reclaim his swamp becomes a journey of friendship, vulnerability, and self-discovery. Though gruff and sarcastic on the surface, Shrek gradually reveals a deeply loyal, compassionate heart.
Seeking: A commanding actor with excellent comedic timing, emotional honesty, and a strong singing voice.
PRINCESS FIONA
Female | Stage Age: 20–30
Vocal Range: F3 – G5 (Mezzo-Soprano/Belter)
The spirited Princess of Far Far Away who has spent years waiting in a tower for her “storybook” rescue. Intelligent, fearless, athletic, and delightfully unconventional, Fiona is more than capable of taking care of herself. Beneath her confidence lies a secret she fears will prevent anyone from truly loving her.
Seeking: A strong singer and actress who excels at comedy, physical storytelling, and heartfelt moments. Strong tap dancing ability is required for Fiona’s featured performance in “Morning Person.”
DONKEY
Male | Stage Age: 20–35
Vocal Range: C3 – B4 (Tenor)
A fast-talking, endlessly optimistic donkey who refuses to let Shrek push him away. Loud, lovable, and relentlessly positive, Donkey becomes Shrek’s closest friend and comic counterpart. Though often the source of humor, Donkey’s loyalty and sincerity are the emotional glue of the story.
Seeking: An energetic performer with outstanding comedic instincts, charisma, and vocal ability.
LORD FARQUAAD
Male | Stage Age: 30–45
Vocal Range: B2 – D5 (Baritone)
The comically short ruler of Duloc. Ruthless, narcissistic, and obsessed with perfection, Farquaad dreams of becoming king by marrying a princess. His hatred of fairy tale creatures masks his own insecurities, making him both hilariously ridiculous and surprisingly human.
Seeking: A fearless comedian who embraces physical comedy and larger-than-life character work.
DRAGON
Female | Stage Age: 25–45
Vocal Range: F3 – E♭5 (Alto/Belter)
A powerful dragon charged with guarding Princess Fiona’s tower. Beneath her intimidating exterior is someone longing for companionship. After meeting Donkey, she unexpectedly discovers romance while still maintaining her fierce presence.
Seeking: A commanding vocalist with confidence, humor, and strong stage presence.
FEATURED ROLES

The outspoken leader of the fairy tale creatures. A wooden puppet whose nose grows whenever he lies, Pinocchio is clever, mischievous, and full of personality.
