Synopsis

John Balderston and Hamilton Deane’s adaptation of Dracula was originally written in 1924 on commission from Bram Stoker’s widow, Florence Stoker. A reaction to the film Nosferatu being produced without permission from the estate, this was the first adaptation of the work authorized by the Stoker estate. This same version was also the production that established Bela Lugosi as a force on the American stage, and that would move on to be adapted into the blockbuster horror film he would later star in — and later still, Christopher Lee.

Set in the 1920’s in the London home of Dr. Seward and the crypt of the Count himself, Jonathan Harker seeks answers as to what malady is afflicting his beloved Lucy. When her father, Dr. Seward, calls for the help of the eccentric Abraham Van Helsing at the same time as their mysterious neighbor, Count Dracula, begins offering help, suspicions are aroused as to whose intentions to saving her are true.

Genesius is excited to present this parlor horror as a celebration of classic literature, stage, film, and all things that go bump in the night!

We are seeking actors of any background with a strong sense of dramatic and comedic timing, as well as suspense for this is an intimate, 8-person play.

Actors auditioning may be asked to perform an English, Romanian, Dutch, and/or Germanic accent.
