We’d like you to prepare two things:
1. A monologue of your choice (it can be dramatic or comedic). You should be familiar with it, but don’t need to be off-book.

2. Tell us a story about a “meet-cute” from your life. How did you meet a significant other? Where did you meet your best friend? Have you had a great interaction with a stranger? We want to hear you reminisce about one of your favorite personal interactions.

Callbacks will be Wednesday, July 29, by invitation only.

What is this play about?

Five wayward souls in a small-town in Vermont gather for a community acting class. Over six weeks, they engage in intimate, sometimes awkward theater games that slowly reveal their vulnerabilities, secrets, and emotional lives, transforming their relationships and providing quiet, profound healing.

Characters:

MARTY – 55, female-presenting

A good (yet in-over-her-head) community rec center teacher trying to bring art to her small town one person at a time.

JAMES – 60, male-presenting

Marty’s husband, who is only in this class because his wife is running it. Their relationship started with sparks, but their differences have been putting a wedge between them over the years.

SCHULTZ – 48, male-presenting

Struggling through a divorce and still trying to discover who he is as a single man. He thinks he might be able to find it at the rec center drama class, and very-eagerly tries to form new connections.

THERESA – 35, female-presenting

She tried really hard to make it as an actor in New York, but never quite found her way in. She’s recently given up on that dream and settled into this new small town looking for something else. Needs to be proficient with a hula hoop.

LAUREN – 16, female-presenting

A moody teen with hopes of being a performer who enrolled in this class to start her serious acting training, without the knowledge of her parents.

(IMPORTANT: If we end up casting a minor as Lauren, all members of the cast and crew will be required to obtain the necessary background checks. By auditioning for the show, you will agree to obtain these clearances.)
