Summary of Show:
Siblings Vanya and Sonia live a quiet life in the family farmhouse in Pennsylvania caring for their parents. Their peaceful routine is disrupted when their movie-star sister Masha visits for the weekend with her young lover (Spike) and announces her plans to sell their childhood home. A weekend of rivalry, regret, and raucousness follows in this multi-award-winning play (Concord Theatricals).
Cast Breakdown/Requirements:
VANYA: M, 55-60, any ethnicity
Living in Bucks County. Resigned to life, more or less.
SONIA: F, early 50s, any ethnicity
Vanya’s adopted sister, living with him in Bucks County. Discontent, upset, regretful but hopes for impossible things.
MASHA: F, 50s, any ethnicity
Vanya and Sonia’s sister – glamorous and successful actor who goes gallivanting around the world. Engages intimately with Spike.
SPIKE: M, about 27, any ethnicity
Aspiring actor, sexy and self-absorbed. Performs a striptease down to his underwear. Engages intimately with Masha.
NINA: F, early 20s, any ethnicity
Neighbors’ visiting niece. Lovely, sincere, aspiring actor.
CASSANDRA: F, any age, any ethnicity
Cleaning lady and soothsayer. Eccentric and dramatic.
**Note: Vanya and Masha are biologically-related siblings. The director may choose to cast actors who could appear to be related.
Location:
Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be held in-person at the Players Club of Swarthmore (614 Fairview Rd, Swarthmore, PA 19081). Plenty of off-street parking and access by Septa Regional Rail and Bus. Rehearsals are three evenings a week, beginning August 16, with a full week of technical/dress rehearsals. Some of our rehearsal and performance spaces are only accessible by stairs. Please let us know if you need accommodation.
