4 LADS FROM LIVERPOOL - Act II Playhouse

4 LADS FROM LIVERPOOL: British Invasion at Act II

Posted by

4 LADS FROM LIVERPOOL is running at Act II Playhouse in Ambler, PA through September 30.

Fifty years may have passed since they recorded their first hit, but The Beatles currently are alive and well, rocking out their classics at Act II Playhouse in Ambler.  In its East Coast premier, 4 LADS FROM LIVERPOOL whisks the audience from the band’s early days to the Sgt. Pepper era and beyond.  The website describes the show as a “multimedia experience”; however, aside from a couple video clips to set the time period, this is purely a tribute concert.  That being said, 4 LADS is everything a Beatles tribute concert should be, and makes for a satisfyingly delightful evening.

A few things push 4 LADS ahead of your run-of-the-mill tribute.  First, the talent is incredible.  All four performers encapsulate their counterparts’ dynamic skill sets, and each has had success with other notable tribute groups, such as “Rain” and “Beatlemania”.  Robert Graham showcases John’s powerful vocals and a mastery of multiple instruments.  Jimmy Pou as George rocks the house on lead guitar.  Douglas Cox’s Ringo provides solid support on percussion.  And Paul Ramone as, well, Paul mixes a great voice with impressive talent on bass guitar (left-handed, of course).

All the little details are covered.  When the lights first come up, with the band in their black suits in position, and “All My Lovin’” begins, it’s right from the Ed Sullivan show.  4 LADS continues from this point through many popular early songs, such as “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” and “Help!”.  The harmonies are spot on and historically accurate, and the group does a great job incorporating the audience into the show.  The second act has the band in their Sgt. Pepper outfits and the pace appropriately slows, with great hits such as “Nowhere Man” and Lennon’s solo “Imagine”.

Surprisingly, Act II’s intimate venue is perfect for this energizing concert.  Every seat in the house is great, and never once did I feel overpowered.  The praiseworthy sound mixture ensures each audience member has a exciting time and will be singing the hits on the ride home.  Those seeking a solid throwback to authentic, classic Beatles rock need look no further than Act II in September.
