Show Dates:
Friday, September 18th
Saturday, September 19th
Sunday, September 20th
There will be four performances of this production. A Friday evening show, a matinee and an evening production on Saturday, and a matinee on Sunday.

Rehearsal Schedule:
We will be meeting mostly weeknights, with the exception of two guaranteed Saturdays – 7/25 and 8/1. We ask that you place a tentative hold for 9/12 in case we need it for a cue to cue before tech.

At SCP, we are adamant that rehearsals are streamlined and that you are working when you’re there. The cast will not be called to every rehearsal but as this is a heavy ensemble show, most rehearsals will be full cast.

About the show:
Godspell is a musical in two acts with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by John-Michael Tebelak.[1] The show is structured as a series of parables, primarily based on the Gospel of Matthew, interspersed with music mostly set to lyrics from traditional hymns, with the passion of Christ appearing briefly near the end.

Character Breakdowns:
All roles are open gender and we will be using your actual names on stage for the soloists.

Jesus – any gender, adult.
Charismatic, energetic, approachable. A strong actor, mover, and singer. The embodiment of kindness, tolerance, and love. Guides the disciples through the parables with playful storytelling. G5-A3

Judas/John the Baptist – any gender, adult.
Serious and intellectual. Actor must have strong comedic skills and be a good mover. Jesus’ lieutenant and most ardent disciple. G5-A3

Troupe:
Day by Day – Confident, open, and sweet. The first to commit to Jesus. Possibly the youngest of the group.
Oh Bless the Lord My Soul – Confident, bold, with a strong presence. WIlling to jump into anything without fully understanding what that undertaking may mean.
We Beseech Thee – Very high energy, impish and playful.
All Good Gifts – Not the quickest on the uptake, but sweet and innocent.
By My Side – Earthy, warm, and shy. Becomes more involved as the show goes on. Expressive and gentle voice/energy.
Learn Your Lessons Well – Class clown and eager, but never the first one to commit.
Light of the World – Comedian, good with voices and imitations.
Turn Back O’ Man – Adult. Sassy, slightly cynical and rebellious. Has a ‘put on’ sensuality.

Each character contributes to the ensemble’s dynamic, creating an interactive and vibrant storytelling experience that blends humor, music, and spirituality.
