Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre Company is seeking diverse actors (ages 13-65 years old) for a bold, visceral reimagining of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, performing outdoors at Snug Harbor’s Connie Gretz Secret Garden September 11, 12, 18, & 19 (rain dates September 13 & 20).
Auditions are June 19-20 at Snug Harbor. Rehearsals begin June 22 and generally rehearse Monday/Wednesday evenings and alternating Saturdays.
Please prepare a Shakespeare monologue in the tone/style of the show (around 90 seconds). All roles open. To make an appointment at your preferred audition time, email Macbeth.sist2026@gmail.com.
Set in the brutal, mystical world of 11th-century Alba, this adaptation excavates the history beneath the legend of the real Scottish king Macbethad mac Findláich (“Macbethad the Red”) and the historical Gruoch, blending Shakespeare’s text with Scottish history, Gaelic mythology, ritualized movement, brutal combat, folk horror, and environmental storytelling. The Weird Sisters are reimagined as ancient Gaelic goddesses — BRIGID, THE CAILLEACH, and CLOTA — sacred forces tied to the land itself, watching their world disappear beneath war, kingship, and the rise of Christianized royal order. At the center are Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as two halves of a sacred fracture: Macbeth, the sword forged for conquest, and Gruoch, the vessel tied to land, bloodline, and sovereignty.
This production is dedicated to showcasing actors of different races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, body types, abilities, and backgrounds, and strongly encourages performers of all experiences and identities to audition.
