THE FOREIGNER arrives at Footlighters Theater

by Patricia Bradford

Footlighters Theater is proud to present the first production of the new season, THE FOREIGNER, directed by Tony Filipone and produced by Don Gimpel.

Footlighters Community Theater opens its 88th season with a hysterical two-act comedy, THE FOREIGNER. Author Larry Shue sets the scene; what does a shy Englishman in search of rest do when he visits a fishing lodge in Georgia? In Shue’s hilarious farce, in order to avoid being pestered by the locals, Charlie Baker, a proofreader by day and a boring husband by night, adopts the persona of a “foreigner” who doesn’t understand English. This gives Charlie the peace he wants, as well as providing a special excitement for the others, who have never seen a “real live foreigner” before. It also leads to many hilarious situations. As the others begin to speak freely around him, he becomes privy to secrets both dangerous and frivolous.

Through little effort on his part, Charlie endears himself to almost everyone by being a good listener (much better than they know) as they relate their problems to him. In the process, he fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play, discovers an adventurous extrovert within himself and sets up the wildly funny climax where things go uproariously awry.

The laugh-heavy cast includes Joe Tranchitella in the title role, plus Rich Geller, Denise McBride, Ann Kashishian, Randy Weinstein, Delaney Matthews and Basil Kershner.

THE FOREIGNER opens on Friday, September 9th at 8:00pm and runs for three weekends. Evening shows are available September 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 & 24 at 8:00pm; Sunday matinees on September 11 and 18 at 2:00pm. Tickets are still just $16.00 per person, available in advance at www.footlighterstheater.com or at the door.
