Jane Austen’s PRIDE & PREJUDICE to be Presented by Perkiomen Valley High School Theatre on November 20th and 21st

by Patricia Bradford

Perkiomen Valley High School will present its annual Fall Show on Friday, November 20th at 7:30 PM and Saturday, November 21st at both 2:00 & 7:00 PM. This year, the theatre group will present Jane Austen’s romantic comedy, PRIDE & PREJUDICE. All of the wit and romance of Jane Austen’s classic 1813 novel come to life in this refreshingly fast-paced and engaging new adaptation by Jon Jory. Finding a husband is hardly Elizabeth Bennet’s most urgent priority. But with four sisters, an overzealous match-making mother, and a string of unsuitable suitors, it’s difficult to escape the subject. When the independent-minded Elizabeth meets the handsome but enigmatic Mr. Darcy, she is determined not to let her feelings triumph over her own good sense — but the truth turns out to be slipperier than it seems. In a society where subtle snubs and deceit proliferate, is it possible for Elizabeth and Darcy to look beyond his pride and her prejudice, and to make the best match of all? With over 90% of the dialogue in show coming directly from the book, Ms. Austen’s witty dialogue comes alive in the clever adaptation.

The show will feature fifteen high school students in the cast, from Freshmen to Seniors, with twelve more students working crew, lights and sound. Sophomores Zoe Muller and Jared Pinkham play Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy, with seniors Derek Brown and Christie Warren playing Elizabeth’s parents, Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet. Also featured in the cast are Nina Lima, Kyra Godley, Grace Folk and Grace Rogers as Elizabeth’s sisters. Completing the cast are Maura Jaeger (Caroline Bingley), Irina Koleva (Charlotte Lucas), Elizabeth Land (Lady Lucas/Mrs. Gardiner), Brandon Maroney (Mr. Collins/Mr. Gardiner), Evan Mitchell (Officer Wickham), Ethan Rapp (Charles Bingley/Colonel Fitzwilliam) and Ivy Yeager (Lady Catherine/Housekeeper). The show will be performed in the auditorium at Perkiomen Valley High School located at 509 Gravel Pike in Collegeville. Tickets are $12.00 for Adults, $10.00 for students and will be available at the door.
