Broadway’s Future Looks Bright at the Barn Playhouse

by Kelly Thunstrom

High energy performances mark the Dramateurs, Inc’s production of 2013 BROADWAY SHOWSTOPPERS at the Barn Playhouse in Jeffersonville, PA.

Ending a week that was so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk, the Barn’s youth production of 2013 BROADWAY SHOWSTOPPERS delivers a breath of fresh air. There is no plot at all…just popular show tunes sung by some of the most talented young performers in the area. I’m not really sure how they were able to do it in the heat wearing 4-piece suits, long-sleeve dresses, and scarves, but their energy was sky high from start to finish.

You’ll see a little of everything in this show, with songs from classic musicals like LES MISERABLES, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and CATS, to those from the modern era of WICKED, HAIRSPRAY, and LEGALLY BLONDE. As I sat there with my program, I would star those numbers I thought were particularly good. After awhile, I gave up because I was starring everything.

The kids are truly magnificent, and you could tell from the start that they all love to sing and act. After a song was over, I would read the biography of the person who sang it and discover that they might only be in 7th grade or a freshman in high school.
