The Story: Keely, a pregnant rape victim is kidnapped by a right-to-life organization and brought to a secret location where they will hold her until her last trimester, when she will be released. Du (an elderly woman and member of the organization) has the responsibility for overseeing Keely and making sure that she is well attend to during her “imprisonment”. Upon her release in the third trimester, Keely will have no choice and must carry the child to term and either raise it as her own or give it up for adoption. A primary focus of the play is the delicate and surprising development of the relationship between two diametrically opposed women (both in principle, age, and background). Also the issue of forgiveness—forgiving those who wrong us or who don’t understand or won’t listen—and even forgiving ourselves for actions that we engage in that are for all intents and purposes inevitable, especially when our freedom of choice has been removed, is a primary focus.
Rehearsal Location: Allens Lane Theater, 601 West Allens Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19119.
