Audition Requirements: Casting 12 – 14 actors. Ability to handle Shakespearean language, improvise, and move with choreography.
Looking for inclusivity: all roles are open to people of all races and gender identities.
What to Prepare: Please complete an audition form in advance, and come prepared to move.

Synopsis of “R & G”: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two minor characters from Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet, have been summoned to glean what madness has affected their friend, the prince; Hamlet. Between brief scenes from Hamlet, they are largely left in a state of waiting. They pass the time playing games, posing questions, and tossing coins, gradually realizing that their fates have been taken out of their own hands.
Rosencrantz (lead) – A childhood friend of Hamlet with a carefree and artless personality that masks deep dread about.
Guildenstern (lead) – A childhood friend of Hamlet frequently disconcerted but constantly striving to make sense of life.
The Player (lead) – The leader of an impoverished troop of traveling actors; the Tragedians, the Player’s cunning wit and confident air suggest knowing more than is let on. Eager to please others, but prefers to call the shots.
Tragedians (3 – 5 actors) – A group of traveling actors, the Tragedians specialize in melodramatic and sensationalistic performances, and are willing to engage in sexual entertainments if the price is right. (physical comedy and improv needed – few lines)
Hamlet – The prince of Denmark is thrown into a deep personal crisis when the King dies, Uncle Claudius takes the thrown and marries Queen Gertrude. Exhibits strange behavior confusing the other characters.
Claudius – Hamlet’s uncle and the new king of Denmark who tries to exploit Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to learn what Hamlet believes about the king’s marriage to Gertrude
Gertrude – Hamlet’s mother and the queen of Denmark, disgraced by marrying Claudius so soon after the king’s death, sincerely hopes that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern can help Hamlet.
Polonius – A member of the Danish court and adviser to Claudius, willing to interrogate and even spy on Hamlet.
Ophelia – The daughter of Polonius and Hamlet’s former beloved, she spends the play in a state of shock and anguish as a result of Hamlet’s bizarre conduct
