“It’s always nice to see two young kids getting started. With all the trouble today, you see a couple of newlyweds, you figure there’s still hope for the world.”

Neil Simon’s timeless comedy introduces us to this most mismatched of couples, Corie & Paul. The whimsical dreamer, Corie and her straight laced, button down husband Paul, are a young newlywed couple just setting off on one of life’s greatest journeys – Marriage. With their wedding rings still fresh and shiny on their fingers, Corie and Paul are determined to prove that not only do opposites attract, but can sometimes be a perfect fit. It won’t be easy though, as they struggle not only against their own conflicting personality quirks, but also their surroundings as they search for that most elusive ingredient in any relationship -“Compromise.”

Set in the bohemian world of New York City’s Greenwich Village, in what could be the most ridiculous apartment building ever constructed, Corie and Paul must come to terms with not only their own differences, but also the chaos that comes from moving into their cramped new apartment. Surrounded on all sides by their eccentric neighbor Victor and Corie’s nagging mother Ethel, Corie and Paul devise a plan to ease frustrations by playing Matchmaker for their Victor and Ethel. When the plan backfires stupendously, we see how the couple handles the resulting (hilarious) chaos which tests their new marriage to the breaking point.

Neil Simon’s early era masterpiece premiered on Broadway in 1963 and ran for 1,530 performances before being adapted for film in 1967; it recently returned to Broadway in 2006. The Road Company production of this romantic comedy, directed by Carol Murphy and produced by Paula Farrar, will bring a smile to your face, warmth to your heart and an ache to your side.
