The jazz age comes alive in November at The Forge Theatre with the delightful musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. This toe tapping remake of the 1967 movie features music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, with book by Scanlan and Richard Morris.
The story details the story of a small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love – a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a white slavery ring in China.
A veteran production staff brings this crowd pleaser to Phoenixville: Director Greg Morton, Producer Pam Taylor, Musical Director Denise Wisneski, Stage Manager Linda Blystone, and Choreographer Gail Oldfield putting the tap dancers through their paces.
The Forge Theatre is located at 241 First Avenue in Phoenixville.
Show dates are November 1, 2, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 all performances except Nov 16 and 23 are at 8 PM…16 and 23 at 2 PM. Tickets $18 for adults; students $15.
