Steel River Playhouse announces open auditions for our May/June 2017 production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

Initial Auditions are:

Friday, February 17 from 6p to 10p (dance auditions will begin at 8:30)
Saturday, February 18 from 10a to 2p (dance auditions will begin at 12:30)

Callbacks are:

Sunday, February 19 from 6p to 10p

Auditions are by appointment only – no walk-ins.

Prepare two songs (approx. 16-32 bars each) of contrasting music theater songs. You may be asked to sing only one. ***PLEASE DO NOT SING A SONG FROM THE SHOW.***

Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. Please have music clearly marked with the beginning and end of your 16-32 bars.

**No a cappella auditions.**

Please either wear or bring comfortable clothes and shoes as there will be a dance audition.
All those auditioning are encouraged to provide a résumé of their onstage experience.
First time actors are also welcome!
Headshots are appreciated. If a head shot is not available, any photo will be accepted.
These are non-union, unpaid roles.

Actors will need to fill out an audition form. Please be prepared with any and all conflicts/availability for the rehearsal period of February to May of 2017.
There are no production fees for this show. There are no fees to audition.

Please note that ages are suggested, not required. We are looking for actors that can play and look a particular, not necessarily be a particular age. Some roles such as Louis the Chef and others may be filled by ensemble members.

A mermaid and King Triton’s youngest daughter. She is obsessed with everything about the human world, and dreams of becoming a part of life above the water. Hardheaded, naive, and emotional, but also kind hearted. (Gender: Female; Approximate Age: 16 to 25)

The banished Sea Witch and sister of King Triton. Supposedly spurned at childhood, she will use whatever method necessary to steal the kingdom and claim it as her own. Malevolent, calculating, and deceptive. (Gender: Female; Approximate Age: 25 to 45)

Prince Eric
A human monarch who has no interest of taking the crown. A handsome, affable lad with a buoyant, adventurous nature. After Ariel saves his life, he becomes obsessed with finding her and hearing her voice once more. (Gender: Male; Approximate Age: 20 to 30)

King Triton
King of the Sea and Ariel’s father. Beneath his imposing presence and commanding nature lurks a harried single father who will do anything to protect his daughters. The death of his wife has also given him an irrational fear of humans. (Gender: Male; Approximate Age: 25 to 45)

A crab and advisor to King Triton. A musical virtuoso who is constantly distraught from keeping after Ariel. Despite his paranoia, he can’t bring himself to stand in Ariel’s way. (Gender: Male; Approximate Age: 22 to 35)

A fish and smitten with Ariel, his best friend. Rambunctious but cautious, fearful of the dangers that lurk in and above the water. (Gender: Male; Approximate Age: 13 to 18)

Prince Eric’s British guardian. Droll, stuffy, and constantly urging Eric towards his royal duties, specifically marriage. (Gender: Male; Approximate Age: 40 to 60)

A disheveled seagull and expert in human artifacts. Loudmouthed, optimistic, and a bit ignorant, despite his supposed expertise. (Gender: Male; Approximate Age: 25 to 40)

An eel and one of Ursula’s lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear. (Gender: Male/Female; Approximate Age: 20 to 40)

Chef Louis
The French palace chef, diabolical and violent. A culinary perfectionist with an affinity for blades, seafood in particular. (Gender: Male; Approximate Age: 25 to 50)

Female Ensemble
8 total; will play Mersisters (Aquata, Arista, Andrina, Adella, Atina, Allana), Princesses, Sea Creatures, Palace Maids, Gulls etc.

Male Ensemble
6 total; 4 will double as other named characters (Chef Louis, Scuttle, Pilot); will play Gulls, Sea Creatures, Sailors, etc.

Children’s Ensemble
5 total (in addition to Flounder); will play Sea Creatures, Gulls, etc.
*Only children ages 10 and up will be considered for the Children’s Ensemble!

Patricia Bradford holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. She has performed, directed and produced theatre throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Ms. Bradford is founder and Managing Artistic Director of Bare Stage Theatre. Leading STAGE Magazine has become a consuming passion - one which combines her many artistic skills, theatrical contacts and administrative abilities. She is thrilled to be carrying on the vision that was begun by Holley Webster over 30 years ago, and leading STAGE to new levels of success.
