BURLINGTON CITY – Bridge Players Theatre Company, the Burlington City-based community theatre group, is proud to announce “A Season of Comedy” as it kicks off its 41st Season. Its season opener is a musical take on William Shakespeare’s classic comedy, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. The production commemorates the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death in 1616.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, A MUSICAL COMEDY features hilarious adventures involving four lovers, mischievous sprites and fairies, a play within the play, and a quarrelsome King and Queen. The story takes place in a fantasy-filled forest. A score of familiar Broadway and pop songs have been added to this delightful comedy.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, A MUSICAL COMEDY is directed by Jeanne M. Haynes of Florence. Haynes comments, “The theme of the play, love – with its many imperfections – is as important today as it was 400 years ago. There are ups and downs; twists and turns…and a bit of magic! I also wanted to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Not too many community theatres mount Shakespeare, then turn the piece into a musical comedy.”

The cast of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, A MUSICAL COMEDY – described by Haynes as her “dream cast” – hails from locations throughout the southern NJ area, and includes Ann Comegno of Moorestown as Philostrata, Jeanne Wayman of Delran as Puck, Richard Kingston of Willingboro as Theseus and Oberon, Nina Law of Westampton as Hippolyta and Titania, Steve Rife of Edgewater Park as Egeus and Snug, Caitlin Reed of Burlington as Hermia, Steve K. of Florence as Lysander, Jackie Smith of Sewell as Helena, John Comegno of Moorestown as Demetrius, Cynthia Grayson of Bordentown as Paula Quince, Tim Kirk of Delran as Bottom, Elijah Barnes of Burlington as Flute, and Jessi Meisel of Sewell as Starveling. Rounding out the cast are Tyler Morgan (Shadow) and Chynna Benson (Hyacinth) of Beverly, Molly Connolly (Primrose) of Browns Mills, and Julie Snyder (Iris) of Marlton.

All performances are at the Broad Street United Methodist Church, 36 E. Broad St. in Burlington, NJ. Performance times are September 30, Oct. 1, 7, 8, 14 & 15 at 8:00PM and October 2 & 9 at 3:00PM. The performance on Sunday, October 9 will be sign-interpreted, and Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) will be available for the October 7-9 performances.
