MCT Announces Ogres Have Layers!

by Patricia Bradford

”It’s a Big Bright Beautiful World” as MCT presents their summer musical SHREK The Musical. The show opens Friday, July 17 at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East, Collegeville, PA 19426. The family friendly show, with book and lyrics by David Lindsay‐Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori is based on the 2001 Oscar winning DreamWorks film and William Steig’s 1990 book Shrek!

In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when instead of a handsome prince, a grumpy ogre shows up to rescue the feisty princess. You’ll also meet a donkey who won’t shut up, a villain with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of situation that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek! As the story unfolds, get ready for lots of high energy songs and spectacular dancing!

The cast is lead by Jude Adams (Pottstown) as Shrek the Ogre, and Nicolette Adams (Pottstown) as Fiona, the princess with an attitude and a secret. Brent Anders (Souderton) portrays Donkey, Shrek’s talkative pal, and Brett Kahn (Philadelphia) plays the villainous Lord Farquaad. The Fairy Tale Ensemble is lead by Evan McElhiney (Phoenixville) as Pinocchio and Vanessa Limbert (Norristown) as Gingy. Leah Stern (Quakertown), Caroline Lewis (Devon) and Lindsay Zimmerman (Philadelphia) together make up the strong and flirty Dragon. A large ensemble of Duloc Villagers and Fairy Tale characters rounds out the cast.

(Phoenixville). Ken Brown (Mont Clare) provides the musical direction; the show’s choreographer is Sally Rothschild (Wayne). The show is being produced by Barbara Cross (Collegeville).
