Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society Presents THE MIKADO

by Patricia Bradford

The Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society presents the comic operetta THE MIKADO on Friday June 19 at 8:00 PM and on Saturday June 20 at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM, at Delaware Valley University’s Life Sciences Building Theater, 700 W. Butler Avenue, Doylestown. Gilbert and Sullivan’s delightful musical comedy spoofs Victorian society, even though the plot is playfully set in 19th century Japan. The story weaves together blustering government officials, guileless schoolmaids, pretentious royal hangers-on and comically unsuited love matches, all sung to Sullivan’s glorious music. The singers are accompanied with full orchestration by members of the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are $20 at the door for general admission, $15 for seniors and $10 for students, and seating is first come, first served. Tickets can also be ordered online at brownpapertickets.com/event/1635170. Attendees should enter the campus from New Britain Road onto Admissions Drive and turn right into Parking Lot C, which borders the Life Sciences Building.
