Off Broad Street Players Reschedule FENCES

by Patricia Bradford

The Off Broad Street Players (OBSP) announced today their production of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play FENCES will now be held May 15, 16, and 17. The new dates of the production, originally scheduled for later this month, will enable the community theatre group to dive deeper into Wilson’s powerful script while also upgrading behind-the-scenes equipment at the group’s second stage in the Glassworks in Millville.

Set in the 1950s, FENCES focuses on members and friends of the African-American Maxson family and their struggles in and out of their urban home in a time of racial division.

“FENCES is an incredibly powerful story and one we are very excited to include in our 2015 season,” said David Halter, president of the OBSP, the resident theatre company of the historic Levoy Theatre. “After much consideration, we concluded that giving more time to rehearsals and even improvements to things like our lighting system would ultimately result in what is always our goal – presenting the very best show we can to our gracious and supportive audience.”

FENCES performances will be held Friday, May 15, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, May 16, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, May 17, at 3 p.m. Fences marks OBSP’s first production at the Glassworks in Millville since creating the partnership to make the Glassworks the group’s second stage.

The new dates puts FENCES just a few weeks after OBSP’s next production, RENT, which opens at the Levoy Theatre April 17.

FENCES also includes a dinner theater option on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Best of Southern Cooking in Vineland, New Jersey, will provide the dinners at the Glassworks beginning two hours before the curtain goes up for those shows.

Tickets for the show are $15 per person, and the dinner option is an additional $15 per person. Both can be reserved at http://www.obsp.org/box-office/, and payments can be made on the site or at the door.
