The DuPont Theatre Announces its 100th Broadway Season

WILMINGTON, DE – March 20, 2012– The DuPont Theatre, Delaware’s Broadway Experience, is pleased to announce its Centennial Season, a mix of classics and new shows!  Be a part of history with this once-in-a-century season, guaranteed to offer something for everyone.  The DuPont Theatre’s 100th Season continues to deliver Wilmington audiences a sampling of the best that Broadway has to offer with epic musicals and cutting-edge entertainment.
Kicking off this very special Broadway Series line-up is ELVIS LIVES, October 2-7, 2012, an unforgettable, multi-media live musical journey across the career of the one and only Elvis Presley.  His iconic style, embraced by many of today’s artists, continues to intrigue audiences of all generations. Featuring finalists from Elvis Presley Enterprises’ worldwide Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, as well as a tribute to Ann-Margret, audiences “Can’t Help Falling In Love”® with this phenomenal theatrical concert.

Next up, its ALL ABOARD for a saucy and splendid production of Roundabout Theatre Company’s ANYTHING GOES, October 30-November 4, 2012, winner of three 2011 Tony® Awards including Best Musical Revival and Choreography!  Peppering this Cole Porter first-class comedy are some of musical theater’s most memorable standards, including “I Get a Kick out of You,” “You’re the Top,” and of course, “Anything Goes.” Don’t miss what the AP exclaims as, “So DELIGHTFUL, So DELICIOUS, So DE-LOVELY!”

Coming in December, it’s the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre in SHREK THE MUSICAL, December 4-9, 2012.   Based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, this part romance, part twisted fairy tale features a terrific score of 19 all-new songs, big laughs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery.  Bringing to life a handsome prince, a feisty princess, a donkey who won’t shut up, a villain with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, SHREK THE MUSICAL has been proclaimed “Far, far and away the funniest new musical on Broadway!”

In January, its FLASHDANCE, January 29-February 3, 2013, the pop-culture phenomenon and runaway international success, now live on stage!   Starting with a dream to be bigger, burn brighter and to dance harder—this new musical features a score of smash hits including, the Academy Award-winning title track “Flashdance – What a Feeling,” “Maniac,” “I Love Rock & Roll,” and 16 new, original songs. Experience the magic all over again with FLASHDANCE – The Musical!  What a Feeling!

In April…CATCH THE DREAM direct from Apollo Theater Productions in New York City with DREAMGIRLS, April 2-7, 2013.  This sensational new stage production full of onstage joy and backstage drama tells the story of an up-and-coming, 1960s singing girl group– complete with all the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune.  DREAMGIRLS features the brilliance of some of Broadway’s top directors, choreographers and designers making this Tony and Academy Award winning musical sparkle like never before!

To round out our Anniversary Season, TURN UP THAT DIAL…and get ready to experience Broadway’s most exciting new destination – MEMPHIS, April 30-May 5, 2013.  From the underground dance clubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee, comes a hot new Broadway musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love. Inspired by actual events, MEMPHIS embarks on an incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves with a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is ready for her big break. Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards® including Best Musical, MEMPHIS is filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll. The very essence of what a Broadway musical should be.

In February, legendary star Mitzi Gaynor lights up the stage in an intimate evening of laughs, love and music with RAZZLE DAZZLE! MY LIFE BEHIND THE SEQUINS, February 15-17, 2013.  This unforgettable love letter to a great era of show business is a comedic theatrical memoir.  Mitzi shares side-splitting stories and songs from her show-stopping life and career, along with stunning video footage culled from her television, concert and film work, in a glittering multimedia one woman tour-de-force.
In March, take a nostalgic journey through the most popular movie musicals of the last 50 years. Featuring a cast of 14 talented singers and dancers, a 6 piece band live on stage, and over 300 costume changes, enjoy film clips of your favorite movies from Singing in the Rain and The Glen Miller Story —-to Grease, Dirty Dancing, and Titanic. HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD, March 8-10, 2013, sings and dances its way through over 30 songs including Staying Alive, All that Jazz, Dancing Queen, Jailhouse Rock, and many more! Watch as lights, camera, action unfolds live on stage.
